Kids Get Hands‑On STEM with New Breadboard Kit

Auburn, AL, USAFri May 15 2026
A senior from Auburn University just won a $75, 000 prize for a fresh idea that makes learning electronics easier and more fun. Joseph Rusk, who studies electrical engineering at Auburn, created a startup called The BreadBoard Company. His company sells a special kit that turns the confusing parts of a regular breadboard into clear, simple sections. The kit uses snap‑on templates that cover unused holes and come with step‑by‑step instructions. Because of this, kids can see how the rows connect without feeling lost. Rusk also works with a nonprofit after‑school program called TigerWings, where he helps kids learn STEM.
He has already won smaller contests last year and this spring for the same idea, earning $6, 000 in total. Alabama Launchpad, a state program that supports new businesses, gave him the big prize and a chance to grow his startup. During the competition, he pitched his product for 15 minutes and answered questions from industry experts. With the money, Rusk plans to buy more inventory, advertise his kit, and hire interns. He will also run hands‑on lessons at Kidcam Camps in Chewacla Park this summer. The award lets him move from a simple idea to a real business that can help many kids enjoy STEM.
