Lebanon Sleep Crisis: Anxiety and Diabetes Keep People Awake
A new survey in Lebanon shows a big problem. Most adults there don't sleep well. Researchers asked 582 people about their rest. The average age was around 34. More than half were women. Nearly two out of three had poor sleep quality. That is a lot of tired people.
Mental health plays a huge role. People with anxiety had much higher odds of bad sleep. Moderate anxiety made it almost five times worse. Severe anxiety pushed that to nearly nine times. Depression showed a similar pattern. Moderate depression tripled the risk. Severe depression did too. The link is strong and clear.
Physical health matters as well. Diabetes came with three times the odds of poor sleep. Sleep apnea showed the same jump. Other health issues didn't show up as significant. Neither did age or gender or daily habits. Once you account for the big factors, the rest fades out.
Doctors should pay attention. Screening for sleep problems could help. Especially for those already dealing with anxiety or depression. Same goes for people with diabetes. In places under constant stress, this simple step might make a real difference.
