Mental Health Matters: A Call for Inclusive Design

WorldSun Aug 09 2026

Women face unique mental health challenges that require tailored interventions. Research shows a lack of digital mental health interventions designed for women from marginalized backgrounds. If digital mental health interventions aren't designed with women's input, they may fail to reach their goals, worsening health disparities.

A recent study examined the design processes of digital mental health interventions for women. The researchers looked at 77 articles that described the design of digital mental health solutions for women. They found that many studies didn't clearly state their design methods, and most provided limited information about the populations they included.

Only a few studies consistently involved women from diverse backgrounds in the design process. This lack of inclusivity can lead to ineffective interventions that don't meet the needs of the women they're meant to help. The study highlights the need for human-centered design methods that prioritize women's input and perspectives.

By involving women from diverse backgrounds in the design process, digital mental health interventions can be more effective and better meet the needs of the women they're meant to help. This is a crucial step towards creating more inclusive and effective mental health solutions.
