Miami Hurricanes had a tough night against Louisville, losing 24-21. The game showed that Miami's offense was not on top form. Quarterback Carson Beck had a rough time, throwing four interceptions. The team also had too many penalties, which messed up their game plan.
The defense, however, played well. They kept Louisville from scoring too easily, but they couldn't stop the run consistently. Wide receiver Chris Bell from Louisville had a great game, scoring two long touchdowns.
Looking at the stats, the game seemed close. Miami gained 334 yards, while Louisville had 367 yards. Both teams had similar yards per play. But turnovers made the difference. Beck's interceptions stopped Miami's momentum, even though Louisville didn't score off those turnovers.
So, who stood out for Miami despite the loss? Here are the top ten players graded by Pro Football Focus, with at least 20 snaps played.
Cornerback OJ Frederique had a tough job against Chris Bell. He made three tackles and three pass breakups, but allowed one touchdown. Offensive lineman Anez Cooper allowed only one pressure and had no penalties. Wide receiver CJ Daniels caught seven passes for 74 yards, doing well in the intermediate passing game.
Linebacker Popo Aguirre was solid in his role, making one tackle and not missing any. Running back Charmar Brown had a decent night, gaining nine yards on three carries and catching one pass for five yards.
Defensive end Reuben Bain led the defense in snaps, making one tackle and two pressures. Wide receiver Malachi Toney had a big night, catching nine passes for 135 yards and scoring a touchdown. He also had a two-point conversion pass.
Nickel Keionte Scott was very active, leading the team with nine tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, and one forced fumble. Offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa had the best run blocking grade, allowing only one pressure and picking up a penalty early.
Defensive tackle Ahmad Moten finished with three tackles, one tackle for loss, and three quarterback pressures. He had a good pass rush and run defense grade.
