Migrant women often face a tough reality. They struggle to find stable jobs. This puts them at risk of gender-based violence (GBV). Many studies show this problem. But there are big gaps in what we know. A recent review looked at 50 studies. It found that bad jobs make migrant women more likely to face GBV.
The review used two main ideas. One is intersectionality. The other is Feminist Political Economy. These ideas help explain how different factors work together. They show how bad jobs and GBV are linked.
Migrant women often take jobs that are unstable. These jobs pay little and offer no security. This can lead to big problems. For example, unpredictable work hours can cause stress. It can also make it hard to balance work and life. This can lead to more violence at home.
Some women get trapped in debt. They borrow money to move to a new country. Then, they can't pay it back. This makes them vulnerable to abuse. A few studies even link this to human trafficking. Bad jobs can lead to worse situations.
The review calls for better policies. These policies should help migrant women. They should also address the root causes of bad jobs. By doing this, we can reduce GBV. We can also improve the lives of migrant women.
