Minnesota experienced some of the coldest temperatures of the fall season over the weekend. The chill was so intense that it even brought some scattered flurries. But don't worry, things are looking up! A warmer trend is expected to kick in later this week.
Let's talk numbers. Saturday and Sunday mornings were particularly frosty, with temperatures dropping significantly. On Saturday, the low was around 28 degrees. But Sunday was even colder, especially at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, where it hit a chilly 21 degrees. That's the coldest it's been since March 22, 2025. For comparison, the coldest temperature in October this year at the same airport was 30 degrees.
The cold didn't just stick to one place. Across Minnesota and parts of Wisconsin, temperatures were quite low. Cities like International Falls and Hibbing saw temperatures drop to 15 degrees, while other places like Minneapolis-St. Paul and Grand Marais were at 21 degrees. It was a cold Sunday morning for many.
But what's next? Well, Monday is also expected to be cold, but the good news is that a warmer trend is on the horizon. Highs are expected to reach the mid to upper 50s by Friday and Saturday. So, if you've been bundling up, you might want to start thinking about lighter jackets soon.
As for the weather conditions, winds were gusting into the 20s out of the northwest, making it feel even colder. Highs struggled to reach 30 degrees all day long. There were a few bursts of flurries Sunday afternoon and into the early evening. But don't expect much precipitation for the work week.
So, there you have it. A cold weekend, but a warmer week ahead. It's all part of the ever-changing Minnesota weather.
