Get ready for another exciting journey to the Moon! NASA is teaming up with Firefly Aerospace to send a lunar lander named Blue Ghost. This lander will study some cool things once it touches down on the far side of the Moon. It's part of a program called Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS), where NASA works with private companies to explore the Moon.
Blue Ghost will carry 10 NASA payloads, no commercial ones this time. The lander will head to a volcanic region called Mons Latreille within Mare Crisium. This spot was chosen because it has fewer magnetic fields and rocks, making it safer for the mission.
One big concern is lunar dust, called regolith. This tiny, sharp stuff can stick to anything and everything. Some of the payloads on Blue Ghost will figure out how to deal with this annoying dust. They'll also capture the moment the lander lands to see how the dust behaves.
Other payloads will take X-ray pictures to study Earth's magnetic field from the Moon. This might help us make better weather predictions and protect things like GPS.
Blue Ghost plans to spend 14 days on the Moon. At the end, it will film a solar eclipse, a lunar sunset, and maybe even see something amazing that astronaut Eugene Cernan did during his mission. The whole adventure is expected to last about 60 days.
