New Wear OS Update May Bring Music to Android Watch Speakers

Google is experimenting with a new feature in Wear OS 5. 1 that could allow users to play music directly from their Android smartwatch's built-in speakers. This update is based on Android 15, unlike the previous Wear OS 5, which was based on Android 14. The feature, spotted in the developer release notes by Mishaal Rahman, is designed to work on devices that support media playback through the watch speaker. Users will have the option to choose the built-in speaker for apps that have this capability. However, it's not yet clear which specific devices will support this feature. Currently, Android smartwatches can only play media via Bluetooth. This was also the case for Apple Watches until the Series 10 and Ultra 2 models. Pixel Watch owners might have to wait a bit longer, as Google has announced that the next software update for the Pixel Watch is scheduled for March next year.
