Your phone or electric car battery lasting way longer and being much lighter. That's the promise of lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries, which a U. K. startup called Molyon is working on. Founded by scientists from Cambridge University, Molyon is using a special material called molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) to make Li-S batteries stable and long-lasting. Unlike current batteries, which use rare and expensive materials like cobalt, Li-S batteries are cheaper and more abundant. The key is stabilizing sulfur, which tends to break down quickly in batteries. Molyon believes they've found the secret to making Li-S batteries work well over many charges. They've raised $4. 6 million to build a pilot factory and test their batteries in drones and robots. The goal? To revolutionize how we power our devices and vehicles, making them lighter and more efficient.
