Oceanside Beach Shut Down After Fecal Bacteria Alert in Oregon

The popular West Coast beach known as Oceanside has been declared unsafe by state health officials just before Labor Day. The Oregon Health Authority issued a notice for the spot in Tillamook County, urging visitors to stay out of the water entirely. The advisory went live on Wednesday, covering the shoreline and immediate surrounding areas.

Touching the contaminated water can lead to stomach upset, skin irritation, breathing problems, and other illnesses. Kids, seniors, and people with weak immune systems are especially at risk. The warning also covers nearby creeks, puddles, and any discolored patches that may hold higher bacteria levels.

The bacteria likely come from storm drains, broken sewers, failing septic tanks, and waste from livestock, pets, or wildlife. While swimming is off limits, the officials say kite flying, picnics, games, and walking are fine. They also advise staying out of the ocean for 48 hours after any rain.

The safety alert is not isolated. Siletz Bay in Lincoln County and Mill Beach in Curry County received the same notice on September 3. Visitors to those spots are urged to follow the same water‑avoidance rules.
