OCVibe Transforms Anaheim Into A Bold Public Art Hub

The OCVibe project in Anaheim is turning a new district into a vibrant playground for art and entertainment. Artist Brian Peterson was given just five seconds to make an impression on passing drivers along Katella Avenue. In that brief window, he painted a lively scene called "Rhythm, Flavor, Motion." The mural shows a musician, a chef and a young hockey player in bright reds, blues, yellows and oranges. These figures stand for the district’s plan to host live music, culinary events and sports. Peterson says the team values creativity and wants art to be part of the space before the buildings are finished.

Peterson, who now lives back in his hometown, spent a decade in Orange County earlier in his career. He started by painting portraits of unhoused people, a practice that taught him to capture local character. He designs murals across the country and this is his ninth work in the county. OCVibe plans to display more than 70 original pieces over the next year. The district teamed up with the studio FUTUREFORMS to create a public‑art program that will include a 2‑to‑3‑mile walking loop showcasing a diverse outdoor gallery.

FUTUREFORMS co‑founders Nataly Gattegno and Jason Kelly Johnson are guiding the project. They built a sculptural canopy named "Stretto" that will sit in front of the upcoming concert hall and face the Urban Park. The name references a musical term, reflecting the lively energy they hope to bring. The canopy also serves as a visual bridge linking the Honda Center with the new hall, honoring the area’s sports history while inviting visitors into the new space. By working with local, emerging and established artists, the team aims to craft a strong sense of place for the district.
