Phoenix is gearing up for a mild and comfortable Thanksgiving this year. The weather is expected to be a bit cooler than usual, which is a nice change from the typical warm desert climate. The high temperatures are likely to hover around the low 70s, which is just a tad below the average for this time of year.
Looking back, the warmest Thanksgiving ever recorded in Phoenix was a scorching 87 degrees, which happened not once, but three times—in 2017, 2014, and way back in 1950. On the flip side, the coldest high temperature was a chilly 54 degrees back in 1918. So, while the weather can swing either way, this year's forecast is leaning towards a pleasant and mild holiday.
The National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center is predicting that much of Arizona, including Phoenix, will experience below-to-near normal temperatures from late November through early December. This means Thanksgiving week is likely to be a bit cooler and possibly wetter than usual. However, it's still too early to say for sure if any rain will actually fall.
Phoenix usually sees highs in the low 70s and lows around 50 degrees around Thanksgiving. Rainfall is rare, with measurable rain occurring on only 16 of the last 129 Thanksgivings. Last year, the holiday was clear and sunny, with a high of 74 degrees and a low of 55.
While the forecast is looking good, it's important to remember that weather predictions this far out are broad and can change. For now, though, Phoenix residents can look forward to a comfortable and enjoyable Thanksgiving, perfect for outdoor activities and family gatherings.
