Get ready, Utah! A Winter Advisory is on the way for northern Utah, stretching from Logan to Nephi. Starting New Year's Day, expect some serious snowfall, especially in the higher elevations. The National Weather Service isn't playing around, saying it could get heavy from Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
The advisory kicks in at 11 a. m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1, and wraps up at 2 p. m. on Thursday, Jan. 2. During this time, you can expect six to 12 inches of snow up high, with the Upper Cottonwoods possibly getting up to 18 inches. That's a lot of snow!
Roads could be a bit treacherous, so drivers should prep for winter conditions. The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is warning about potential delays and traction restrictions in the Cottonwood Canyons. They're even suggesting you take the ski bus or carpool to avoid the mess.
Snow can be a pain, but it's also gorgeous on the slopes. Just last week, an overnight storm hit Little and Big Cottonwood Canyons, dumping over eight inches at Alta Ski Area and more than five inches at Solitude. But don't worry, despite the slippery roads, no one got hurt.
