Alabama is in for a wet week. Starting Thursday, rain is expected to fall across the entire state. The National Weather Service predicts that some areas could see nearly 3 inches of rain by the end of the week. This rain is good news for the state's drought conditions. Parts of south Alabama are currently in a Level 3 out of 4 drought, according to the U. S. Drought Monitor. The rain will help keep the drought from getting worse. South Alabama, especially the southwest region, is expected to get the most rain. North and north-central Alabama will see less. The rain is not expected to be severe, so there is no need to worry about extreme weather. The rain will start on Thursday and continue in waves. South Alabama could see some heavy rain at times. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has issued a low risk for flash flooding in south Alabama on Friday. Rain chances will linger into the weekend, but they will be lower on Saturday night into Sunday. The weather service in Huntsville is also keeping an eye on the possibility of a few snowflakes in north Alabama on Sunday night or early Monday morning. However, they say the chances are very low. By later on Monday morning, the rain is expected to stop. The first part of next week looks to be dry.
