Rocktown Softball Coach Starts Fresh Program

Rocktown High School opened its doors in 2024, launching a brand‑new softball program. The Raptors have been winless in their first two seasons, a tough start for any newcomer. Now in its third year, the school is ready for a fresh direction under its new coach.

Blake Brown, a longtime acquaintance from Wilson Memorial in the 1980s, is the new varsity coach. He spent time in Caroline County coaching kids because his daughter wanted to play in a Little League that needed a leader. That experience sparked his passion, leading him to assist at Buffalo Gap, then move to Chancellor, and later return to Caroline. Each stop added to his knowledge of the game and his ability to connect with young athletes.

The new campus, built at a cost of about $112 million, still smells like a brand‑new car. Brown says the program must change its mindset to attract players and supporters. He will host free clinics for local youth and run camps that let families see how the team operates. These outreach efforts aim to get every girl excited about softball at Rocktown.

Success won’t happen alone, so Brown is gathering a strong coaching staff. He feels grateful to work with excellent people who have helped him win before. Together they will build a culture that values teamwork, effort, and fun. The goal is to turn the winless streak into a winning tradition for the Raptors.
