Russia and Venezuela are staying in touch, but they're not spilling the details. Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin's spokesman, mentioned that Russia is in regular contact with Venezuela. However, he didn't share what they're discussing. This comes at a time when tensions in the Caribbean are rising.
Russia wants to keep things calm between Venezuela and the United States. Peskov mentioned this last weekend, hoping to avoid any new conflicts in the region. Meanwhile, Russia's foreign ministry criticized the U. S. for using too much military force in the Caribbean Sea. They also showed support for Venezuela's leaders.
The U. S. has been busy in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific, targeting boats they say are involved in illegal drug trade. They've targeted at least 14 boats and unfortunately, 61 people have lost their lives. The U. S. has also increased its military presence in the area.
Russia and Venezuela have a strong partnership. Their presidents, Vladimir Putin and Nicolas Maduro, signed a strategic agreement in Moscow just a few months ago. This partnership could be why Russia is so involved in the situation.
It's unclear what Russia is doing to help Venezuela, but they're definitely keeping the lines of communication open. With tensions high, it's important for both countries to keep talking and try to find a peaceful solution.
