Saturday Sports Showdown: Upsets and Dominant Performances

The past weekend was filled with exciting high school sports matches, showcasing the skills and determination of young athletes. In girls' soccer, St. Cloud Apollo's Leighton Engel scored two goals, assisted by Sydnee Stanoch, as they defeated Detroit Lake 3-1. Cathedral's Jack Stang scored three goals, Jacob Oliver had two goals and an assist, and Noah Henderson made an impressive 4 saves, leading the Crusaders to a 6-0 victory over Providence Academy. In volleyball, the Midwest Volleyball Warehouse Showcase saw Albany's Hannah Klein dominate with 12 kills in their first match against Hawley. The Huskies then went on to defeat Redwood Valley and Southwest Christian, finishing the tournament in 9th place. St. Cloud Tech, meanwhile, finished 3-1-1 overall at the Dockin Invitational, with standout performances from their team. The Pierz Pioneer Classic saw Little Falls struggle, finishing 0-3-1, while Holdingford ended with a 1-2-1 record. Dassel-Cokato, however, had a tough tournament, finishing 0-2-1 at the Sibley East High School Invitational.
