On January 4th, the hockey and basketball courts were buzzing with action. In girls' hockey, Willmar shut out Litchfield-Dassel-Cokato 4-0. The stars were out for Hutchinson, with Sophia Hess nailing a hat trick against River Lakes. St. Cloud Crush dominated Waconia 5-2, thanks to Molly Burkstrand's two goals. Grand Rapids-Greenway edged out Brainerd-Little Falls 2-1, with Brianna Finnegan scoring the lone goal for the Flying Warriors. Princeton-Big Lake-Becker put up a fight against Rochester Century but fell short, 4-3, with Allison Chaffee leading the way with two goals. In boys' hockey, St. Cloud lost to Roseau 4-2, with Rylan Sakariason scoring both goals for the Crush. Willmar and Litchfield-Dassel-Cokato went into overtime, with Kasey Melquist scoring the game-winner for Litchfield. St. Cloud Cathedral defeated Orono 4-2, with Joey Gillespie scoring twice for the Crusaders. Buffalo put up a good fight against Sartell but lost 5-4, with Shaun Paulson leading the Sabres with two goals. Girls' basketball saw Detroit Lakes fall to Albany 51-39, with Isabella Schiffler and Lylah Findley scoring 13 and 10 points, respectively, for the Huskies. St. Cloud Crush lost to Minneapolis Washburn 56-36. Sauk Rapids-Rice was no match for Zimmerman, losing 72-34. Central Minnesota Christian beat Paynesville 62-37. Becker's girls' team came out on top against Rock Ridge, winning 65-57, with Andersyn Changamire and Adele Changamire scoring 18 and 17 points, respectively. In boys' basketball, Holdingford outscored Little Falls 72-58. Central Minnesota Christian and Paynesville had a close game, with Paynesville winning 79-76.
