A recent law has sparked a debate among Republican senators. This law lets them sue the government for not telling them when their phone records were checked. This happened during an investigation into the January 6th Capitol attack. Most senators say they won't use this law to get money. They believe it's not about the cash but about holding the Biden administration accountable. Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin said he won't sue but wants to expose what he calls the "corrupt weaponization of federal law enforcement. " Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina is the exception. He plans to sue and wants to make it hard for anyone to do this again. Sen. Tommy Tuberville of Alabama also wants to sue and has strong words for Jack Smith, the special counsel leading the investigation. The law was part of a bigger bill to avoid a government shutdown. It only applies to senators and not if they're under criminal investigation. House Speaker Mike Johnson wants to repeal this part of the law, calling it a "bad idea. " The senators whose phone records were accessed include Ron Johnson, Lindsey Graham, Bill Hagerty, Josh Hawley, Dan Sullivan, Tommy Tuberville, Cynthia Lummis, and Marsha Blackburn. They all have different opinions on whether to sue or not.
