Silver Nanoparticles Made with Rifabutin Help Lower Blood Sugar in Rats

Diabetes is a common disease that affects many people worldwide. It causes high blood sugar and can hurt organs like the liver and heart. Scientists keep looking for safer ways to manage it.

In this study, they used a natural method to make tiny silver particles. Rifabutin, an antibiotic, acted as both a reducer and a stabilizer. This green process avoided harsh chemicals.

The silver-rifabutin particles were checked with UV‑vis, XRD, SEM and FTIR to confirm their structure. Then diabetic rats received the particles by mouth at 5 or 10 milligrams per kilogram each day for two weeks. Blood sugar dropped in a dose‑dependent way, lipid levels improved, and liver enzymes SGOT and SGPT returned to normal.

Compared with plain rifabutin, the nanoparticle form worked better at lowering glucose and improving health markers. This suggests that the nanoformulation could be a promising tool for diabetes treatment.
