The first week of the fantasy football season is over, and it's time to think ahead to week 2. While others focus on the upcoming games, you can get a step ahead by looking at the players who might be available on the waiver wire. These players could be a great addition to your team without costing you anything.
Trevor Lawrence is a quarterback to watch. He has never thrown for 25 touchdowns in a season, but this could be his year. He has two games that look promising for fantasy football. The first is against the Panthers, who had a weak pass defense last year. The second is against the Bengals, who have a strong offense but a weak defense. Lawrence is playing under a new coach, Liam Coen, who helped Baker Mayfield have a great year last season.
Tua Tagovailoa is another quarterback worth considering. The Dolphins have a tough game against the Colts in week 1, but the Patriots' defense in week 2 might not be much better. Tua had a good year last season, throwing for a lot of yards and touchdowns. He also has some great receivers, like Jaylen Waddle and De'Von Achane, who can help him put up big numbers.
The Cleveland Browns have a tough game against the Ravens in week 2. But if you're thinking ahead, Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson could be worth picking up. Jerome Ford will get some playing time, but the coaching staff seems to have bigger plans for Judkins and Sampson. Judkins had high expectations coming into the league, but he missed some training camp due to legal issues. Sampson has been impressing in practice and could be a good receiver out of the backfield.
Trey Benson is a running back to watch. The Panthers have a weak defense, and Benson could see more playing time this year. He had a quiet rookie season, but there have been rumors that he will have a bigger role in 2025. If he has a good game in week 1, he could be a hot pickup before the week 2 game against the Panthers.
Woody Marks is another running back worth considering. The Texans' offensive line is not very good, and they will be playing the Buccaneers in week 2, who have a strong defense. Marks is a good receiver out of the backfield and could help the Texans move the ball quickly. But if he doesn't play in week 1, he might not be worth picking up.
Rashod Bateman is a wide receiver to watch. He had a great year last season, catching a lot of passes and scoring eight touchdowns. The Ravens have a good offense, and Bateman should be a key player for them this year. Adam Thielen is another wide receiver worth considering. He might not be the most exciting player, but he is a reliable receiver who can help the Vikings' young quarterback, J. J. McCarthy.
Elic Ayomanor is a wide receiver who beat out Van Jefferson for the number two spot on the Titans. The Titans' offense might not be the best, but if they improve this year, Ayomanor could be a good pickup. Chig Okonkwo is a tight end to watch. He has had some good games in the second half of the season the past two years. If the Titans' offense improves, Okonkwo could be a good pickup.
Brenton Strange is a tight end to watch. He had five games last year with more than nine fantasy points. He no longer has to compete with Evan Engram for playing time, and his new coach, Liam Coen, is known for being creative. Strange could be a great pickup for week 2.
