Stakeholders Speak Up: A New Path to Better Mental Health Models

Academic Research SettingFri Aug 14 2026

When it comes to creating mental health models, experts are starting to realize that involving stakeholders is key. But what do these stakeholders think about the process? A recent study explored the experiences of four different groups: people who've struggled with mental health, young adults passionate about mental health, professionals working with youth, and researchers.

The study involved 14 focus groups and one individual interview, with a total of 43 stakeholders participating. The goal was to understand their thoughts on how to improve mental health models. The results showed that stakeholders valued sharing ideas and incorporating real-life experiences into the models. However, they also expressed concerns about the validity of their contributions and the lack of transparency in the modeling process.

One of the biggest challenges was simplifying the complex concept of mental health and addressing how different factors interact. To overcome these obstacles, the study suggested providing tailored information to each stakeholder group and being more transparent about the modeling process. By doing so, stakeholders can contribute more effectively and help create better mental health models that truly support decision-making processes.
