A well-known Staten Island bakery, owned by Jill Holtermann, found themselves in the spotlight recently. The mix-up came after a birthday celebration on "The View, " where Whoopi Goldberg shared that her order for Charlotte Russe cakes had been initially refused. Holtermann, the owner of New York's oldest bakery, explained that the issue wasn't political but rather due to a malfunctioning boiler. The boiler problem had been causing trouble in the 1930s building where the bakery is located.
Goldberg had placed an order for the old-fashioned desserts, also known as "Brooklyn ambrosia, " two weeks in advance. However, Holtermann felt uncertain about committing to the order with the boiler issues. Despite the initial refusal, someone eventually picked up the cakes early Wednesday morning.
Holtermann confirmed that her small business has been flooded with calls since the incident was made public. The distinct packaging of the desserts was a giveaway for viewers who recognized the cakes as coming from Holtermann's Bakery. Goldberg, who leans Democratic, speculated that the issue might have been political but ultimately focused on celebrating her mother's birthday.
