The National Weather Service has put out a tornado watch for several areas, including East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge, Ascension, Iberville, East Feliciana, Livingston, Pointe Coupee, St. Helena, Tangipahoa, and West Feliciana Parishes, as well as Amite, Pike, and Wilkinson Counties. This watch will be in effect until 3:00 PM on Saturday. A tornado watch means that conditions could be right for tornadoes and strong winds in these regions.
If you're in these areas, keep an eye out for any changes in the weather. Stay tuned for any updates or warnings. If a tornado warning is issued, find shelter in a sturdy building's low-level, interior room. Don't forget your pets—keep them on a leash—and wear hard-soled shoes. Also, use a wireless device to monitor storm coverage and protect your head if a tornado or strong winds hit.
The main threats include isolated tornadoes, some of which could be strong (EF-2 or greater), scattered wind gusts up to 70 mph, and sporadic large hail. Expect some strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon, with more activity likely in the evening.
Remember, the WBRZ WX App is free on Apple and Android devices. It offers breaking weather information, live radar, and forecast details. You can also use it to watch live coverage if there's a power outage or loss of broadcast signal. For more updates, follow the Storm Station on Twitter and Facebook. WBRZ+ streams continuous information as it becomes available.
