Teens in northern Ghana are stepping up to help tackle mental health issues in their schools. They are not just passive participants but active co-designers of strategies to prevent mental health problems. This is part of a unique study that adapts human-centered design (HCD) to fit the local context and resources. Traditionally, teens in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) have not had much say in designing mental health strategies. But this study changes that by involving them directly. The challenge was to adapt HCD methods to work within the local constraints, such as limited resources and cultural norms. The study shows how teens can be engaged in creating solutions that fit their needs. By involving them in the design process, the strategies are more likely to be effective and sustainable. This approach not only addresses mental health issues but also empowers teens to take control of their well-being. The study highlights the importance of involving teens in the design of mental health strategies. It shows that with the right approach, teens can be valuable contributors to creating solutions that work for them. This is a significant step towards addressing the mental health challenges faced by teens in LMICs.
