Chef Eric Greenspan, who was the creative force behind the Tesla Diner in Hollywood, has decided to step away from the project. This move comes just a few months after the diner's grand opening and as Tesla plans to transform the space into a full-service restaurant.
Greenspan shared the news himself, revealing that he's shifting his focus to a new venture: a Jewish deli called Mish. He had been working on this idea for a while, and now he's ready to give it his full attention.
The Tesla Diner, located near the border of Hollywood and West Hollywood, has been a hot topic since it opened in July. It's part of a larger Tesla Supercharger station and has drawn in crowds of Tesla enthusiasts. However, it's also faced criticism and even protests due to Elon Musk's controversial statements and the diner's large outdoor screens.
The diner initially offered a wide range of classic American diner food, but high demand led to a simplified menu. This change helped improve speed and consistency in the kitchen. Despite mixed reviews, the diner has been busy, selling around 50, 000 burgers in just the third quarter.
Tesla is already looking at expanding the diner concept to other locations, such as Austin and Palo Alto. Meanwhile, the Hollywood diner is set to undergo a significant change. Staff members have been informed that the hybrid walk-up and drive-in operation will switch to a traditional sit-down, full-service restaurant by January.
