Life gets in the way, and even the closest of friends can lose touch. For Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, the Emmy-award winning duo behind the hit comedy series "Key & Peele," their friendship and professional collaborations have taken a backseat. In a recent interview, Key opened up about the duo's drifting apart, saying, "We don't see each other that often anymore, which is, to me, a tragedy. " The two comedians met while working together on "Mad TV" and quickly formed a strong bond. They shared a love for comedy and would often spend hours talking about their favorite comedians and the art of humor. Key described their time together as like "sharing a mind," where they were able to anticipate each other's thoughts and ideas. Despite their busy schedules, the duo managed to find time to collaborate on several projects, including their hit comedy series, which ran from 2012 to 2015. They also worked together on the 2016 film "Keanu" and appeared in various other projects, such as "Fargo" and "Toy Story 4. " However, as life got in the way, their friendship and professional collaborations began to dwindle. Peele and his wife Chelsea Peretti moved to Los Angeles, while Key and his wife Elle stayed in New York. The distance and their individual pursuits took a toll on their friendship, and they eventually went their separate ways. In the end, Key said, "It was just time for us to explore other things, together and apart. " He compared their situation to that of Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor, who would work together on projects and then take a break to pursue their own individual endeavors. Key hopes to follow a similar path, taking a year to work on a project and then coming back to collaborate with Peele every three years.
