Tigers Struggle, Greene Healing Ahead of Rays Series
Detroit’s baseball club has stumbled, dropping eight of their past nine contests. That slide has pushed them lower in the AL Central and hurt their wild‑card hopes. They’re now sitting at a 61‑69 record.
This week they welcome the Tampa Bay Rays for a three‑game series starting Monday. Before the first pitch, a bright note emerged about star outfielder Riley Greene. He’s been working out at Comerica Park, doing light conditioning. The team’s beat reporter shared the update on social media.
Greene hasn’t played since a hamstring pull on August 11 during a game against the Cleveland Guardians. He spent the road stretch rehabbing at the Florida facility in Lakeland. So far this season he’s batting .273, hitting 16 homers and driving in 54 runs over 117 games. Without him, Detroit has managed only two victories in their last eleven outings.
Manager AJ Hinch says Greene is moving in a positive direction. He’s not at full speed yet, but the progress is clear. There’s no firm date for his return, but he should be back sooner rather than later. If he’s healthy, the Tigers can boost their chances of making the playoffs.
