Tree Strike Causes Tragic Train Accident

Early on Monday morning, a New Jersey Transit train traveling southbound from Trenton hit a fallen tree just north of Roebling Station in Mansfield Township. The impact was severe. Unfortunately, the train operator lost their life. This is the first tragic incident in the area's memory according to long-time residents. Out of the 42 passengers on board, 23 sustained injuries, but they were non-life-threatening and mostly minor. Many expressed disbelief at what they witnessed, as this kind of accident was unprecedented. The incident brought the NJ Transit River Line to a halt between Florence and Trenton. A nearby hotel served as a temporary staging area for the families of the injured. Authorities are conducting an investigation. Local residents shared their concerns about trees near the tracks. High winds are common in the area, and falling trees are a frequent issue. Some residents even worry about potential disasters due to these conditions. In Mansfield Township, safety concerns about the close proximity of trees to the tracks have been raised.
