The European Union has just sent over 2 billion dollars to Ukraine. This is part of a bigger plan to help Ukraine stay strong while it fights off Russia. The EU has a special fund just for Ukraine. It's called the Ukraine Facility. This fund gives money to Ukraine in two ways: grants, which don't need to be paid back, and loans, which do. The goal is to keep Ukraine's economy stable and help the government keep running. This isn't the first time the EU has sent money. They've been doing it in chunks, and this is the fifth time. Each time, Ukraine has to do certain things before the money comes in. This time, they finished nine tasks and still have one left from the last time they got money. The Ukraine Facility started earlier this year. It's supposed to give Ukraine up to 57. 4 billion dollars by 2027. Out of that, 36. 7 billion dollars is for reforms and investments. These reforms are part of Ukraine's plan to join the EU. So far, the EU has given Ukraine about 6. 8 billion dollars in bridge financing. That's like a short-term loan to help out until more money comes. They've also given 2. 1 billion dollars in pre-financing. That's money given before the actual work starts. Now, with this new 2 billion dollars, the total comes to five installments: 4. 8 billion, 4. 1 billion, 4 billion, 3. 6 billion, and now 2 billion dollars. At the same time, the European Commission, which is like the EU's executive branch, said Ukraine is making progress in its efforts to join the EU. They even made a report about it. The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, said this report is the best one yet. He said it shows that even while Ukraine is fighting Russia, it's still making changes to meet European standards. He also said this progress is thanks to the efforts of millions of Ukrainians. He added that Ukraine is committed to working with the EU to strengthen Europe and their shared values.
