Ukrainian forces made a nighttime assault on a Russian airfield in southern Russia. Reports say the strike ignited a blaze at Primorsko-Akhtarsk airfield, used to dispatch Iran-designed drones into Ukrainian territory in border regions from the Krasnodar region.
The Ukrainians have developed their drones to eliminate the need for international aid and to show Russia that they could strike deeper into Russian territory.
Later in the day, France confirmed the delivery of Mirage fighter jets that was pledged last year, while the Netherlands sent more F-16s.
President Volodymyr Zelensky’s attendance at the Munich Security Conference is coming up. The delegates plan to address the war and Ukraine’s future.
For Ukraine, getting closer to the new US administration is critical. The country is also seeking to understand security safeguards that might prevent future conflicts or aggression. Despite the talks and promises made by previous leaders in the US, the conflict has continued for nearly three years.
Ukrainians are looking for solutions to satisfy a long-lasting peace.
Exchanges between Ukraine and Russia haven’t been easy. Although Russia has sent missiles and drones into Ukrainian, Ukraine has learned to intercept many of them.
But will Zelensky’s meeting with Trump create further challenges or solutions? The conference will be a key moment for Ukraine's diplomatic efforts. The main issue isn’t the drones but Ukraine’s hard work to challenge and develop their capacity.
