Massachusetts high school sports saw some thrilling upsets and record-breaking performances this week. The excitement kicked off with a shocking volleyball match where the 16th-seeded Newton South girls' volleyball team defeated the top-seeded Chelmsford team. This victory was a major upset, as Chelmsford had been undefeated all season. Newton South pulled off this win by taking the final set 15-13, securing their spot in the next round.
In other sports, the Lowell boys' soccer team had a dramatic double-overtime win against Beverly, while the Westford girls' soccer team needed two shootouts to defeat Brookline. The Lynnfield field hockey team also made a surprising comeback, scoring early to defeat Hanover.
One standout athlete, Julie Hall from Central Catholic, became the first player this season to reach 1, 000 kills. She achieved this milestone during a thrilling 3-2 victory over Westborough. Hall, who is still a junior, has plenty of time to add to her impressive record.
Gavin Foley, a senior center midfielder from Watertown, broke his school's single-season soccer scoring record with his 17th goal of the season. Foley's journey to this record is notable as he played for the Raiders as a freshman, spent two years with MLS Next, and then returned for his senior season. His performance this season has been outstanding, with 10 assists to go along with his goals.
The Waltham field hockey team made history with their first tournament win in 17 years, defeating Lexington 3-1. Similarly, the Milford girls' soccer team secured their first playoff win since 2013 with a 2-1 victory over Billerica.

Devin Kelsch from Weymouth committed to play baseball at Salem State.
Coach Rocco Zizza from Boston Latin was named New England Patriots Coach of the Week after leading his team to a 20-0 win over Brighton. This victory secured the Boston City League title and marked the Dragons' sixth-straight win.
