The Justice Department is back at it, trying to get their hands on some old grand jury records tied to Jeffrey Epstein. They've asked a Florida court to make these files public, saying a new law called the Epstein Transparency Act pretty much forces their hand. This isn't their first rodeo. Back in the summer, they tried to get similar records unsealed in both New York and Florida, but judges weren't having it. Now, with this new law in play, they're hoping for a different outcome. The law says the government has to share all sorts of unclassified Epstein-related stuff, but it's not clear if grand jury records are included. The DOJ is in a bit of a rush. They've got a 30-day deadline to release Epstein files, thanks to that new law. They're asking the court to hurry up and decide so they can meet that deadline. These records go way back to 2005 and 2007, from the first time Epstein was investigated in Florida. They're also asking the court to lift a protective order on the case. They promise to redact any personal info about victims or others involved. This all comes after the DOJ said there's no evidence Epstein had a "client list" he used for blackmail. That statement didn't go over well with the public, especially since Epstein died by suicide in his jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial. Oh, and let's not forget Ghislaine Maxwell. Epstein's longtime associate is serving a 20-year sentence in Texas for child sex trafficking and other charges. She's always denied any wrongdoing, but the court didn't buy it.
