Veterans' Job Hunt: Turkey's Amputee Warriors Struggle in Civvy Street

Leaving the military after losing a limb in battle. That's the reality for many veterans in Turkey. They face a tough time finding and keeping jobs in civilian life. This study talked to 24 amputee veterans about their experiences. The biggest hurdles? Being stuck in jobs that don't fit, having no civilian work experience, dealing with different cultures, and facing biases. It's a struggle to blend into the civilian work world. Think about it: these veterans have served their country, only to find themselves in jobs that don't use their skills. It's like being a fish out of water. They also lack the civilian work experience that employers often look for. Plus, the military and civilian worlds are like two different planets. The cultures, the languages, the expectations—they're all different. And sadly, some people still have biases against those with disabilities. But it's not all doom and gloom. Some veterans find jobs that work for them. They might need help from job coaches or disability services to get there, but it's possible. The key is understanding their unique challenges and finding ways to support them.
