Vietnam marked a significant milestone this week, the 80th anniversary of its independence. The country put on a massive military parade, the biggest in years, to celebrate. Streets in Hanoi were packed with people waving flags and wearing red shirts, showing strong national pride.
The parade featured Vietnam's latest military gear, like tanks, missiles, and fighter jets. Soldiers from Vietnam, China, Russia, and other countries took part. Vietnam's leader, To Lam, spoke at the event, emphasizing the country's commitment to protecting its independence and sovereignty.
The parade took place in Ba Dinh Square, where Ho Chi Minh declared Vietnam's independence in 1945. This event marked the start of Vietnam's journey as an independent nation after years of French colonial rule and a brief Japanese occupation.
People lined the streets to watch the parade. One resident, Hoang Thi Huyen, said she was deeply moved by the spectacle. Roads in central Hanoi were closed for days to prepare for the parade and rehearsals.
As part of the celebrations, Vietnam announced it would give each citizen about $3. 80, a total of $380 million. Additionally, the president announced a major amnesty, releasing nearly 14, 000 prisoners, including 66 foreigners.
Celebrations also took place at sea, featuring Vietnam's submarines and frigates, mostly imported from Russia. The day was filled with displays of military might and national unity.
