Hey, everyone! Tomorrow is election day for the December ballot. There's a lot to vote on, so let's break it down.
In East Baton Rouge, there's a big deal about a 2% sales tax. It's not new, but it might move from the parish to the City of St. George. That could mean about $50 million for city services. St. George said they need this money to keep things running. Some people are worried about the parish losing that cash, though.
There's also a runoff for the Mayor-President. It's between Democrat Sharon Weston Broome and Republican Sid Edwards.
In Ascension Parish, there are two runoffs: one for the Mayor of Gonzales and one for the Police Chief. Whoever wins the mayor's race will make history as the first Black mayor of Gonzales. Also, there's a proposition about letting the parish council pick the secretary instead of the president.
Over in Iberville Parish, there's a runoff for the Mayor of Plaquemine. And voters will decide on four tax renewals for schools. The biggest one could bring in $29 million each year!
In Assumption Parish, there are three tax renewals for schools. They bring in about $7. 8 million for things like salaries and construction.
In Pointe Coupee, there's a proposition to double the District Two Fire Department's budget. And in Livingston Parish, there are some propositions about changing the home rule charter and a tax renewal for a gravity drainage district.
