Voter Rolls Under Scrutiny: A Call for Transparency

House Republicans are taking a closer look at a technology contractor's role in New Jersey's voter-registration scandal. The issue began when state officials discovered that 6,600 noncitizens were added to the voter rolls, with around 400 of them casting ballots. The House Judiciary Committee and the Committee on House Administration have sent a formal oversight letter to IDEMIA CEO Matt Cole, demanding documents and communications that could reveal who knew what, when they knew it, and why the problem wasn't disclosed publicly for two years.

The committees are seeking information on IDEMIA's protocols for accurately collecting and transmitting voter-registration data, as well as the company's procedures for complying with federal voting laws. Lawmakers say the records are needed to examine New Jersey's compliance with federal election law and to protect the civil liberties of lawful American voters. The deadline for IDEMIA to provide the requested documents is August 25, 2026.
