Washington, D. C. 's Crime Wave Challenges Recent Claims

Washington, D. C. experienced a grim night with three homicides within just six hours. This happened right after President Donald Trump said the city was much safer now. The victims included two young people and one adult. Police are still looking into these cases. The first shooting happened around 3 p. m. in Southeast D. C. A 17-year-old boy was shot and later died in the hospital. Just a few hours later, another teen was found shot inside a home in Northwest D. C. He did not survive. Then, around 9 p. m. , a woman was shot multiple times in Southeast D. C. and also died. These shootings bring the total number of homicides in the last week to five. So far this year, there have been 122 homicides in D. C. This is a lot, even though Trump has sent more than 2, 000 troops to the city to help with crime. Trump has said that D. C. is now a very safe city. He also said the country would be safe soon. But these recent shootings make people wonder if that is really true. Trump has also added more prosecutors and improved transit services to fight crime. The White House has not commented on these recent shootings yet. People are waiting to see what they will say.
