Who’s carrying Southwest Michigan’s spring sports scene?
Southwest Michigan, Kalamazoo, USATue May 12 2026
High school athletes across Southwest Michigan are putting up numbers that turn heads this spring. From softball sluggers to track stars, the latest Athlete of the Week poll highlights athletes who are pushing their teams forward with performances that stand out.
Baseball diamonds are seeing some serious firepower. Gobles’ Daisy Jackson has been unstoppable, crushing eight home runs in a single week and hitting safely in every game this season. Meanwhile, Marcellus’ Hannah Sharp nearly matched her pace, putting up six homers herself. Over in Portage Central, Ben Liddell dominated golf tournaments, winning back-to-back events with near-perfect rounds.
Track and field athletes are also leaving their mark. Portage Northern’s Trinity Wilkins became a hurdles champion, while Portage Central’s Samuel Baker swept long-distance races. Gull Lake’s Lane Isom broke a school record in the 1, 600 meters, showing how tight competition is getting in the region.
Coaches and scouts aren’t the only ones watching—fans get a say too. The weekly poll lets anyone vote until it closes, giving communities a voice in who deserves recognition. Whether it’s a dominant pitcher, a clutch hitter, or a record-breaking runner, these athletes are making a difference one game at a time.
