Carlos Rodon, the Yankees' left-handed pitcher, had an unexpected turn of events in Game 2 of the ALDS against the Royals. Things were looking promising for the Yankees after scoring a run in the third inning. However, Rodon's performance took a sharp decline in the fourth inning.
Rodon started strong, striking out four batters in the first two innings. He seemed unstoppable, retiring six out of seven batters. But everything changed in the fourth inning. Salvador Perez hit a home run to tie the game at 1-1. This was just the beginning of Rodon's troubles.
Yuli Gurriel followed with a single, and a wild pitch moved him to second base. Then, Tommy Pham hit a single, giving the Royals the lead. Rodon managed to strike out Hunter Renfroe, but his struggles continued. Garrett Hampson hit another single, making the score 3-1. This was enough for the Yankees to replace Rodon with Ian Hamilton.
Hamilton didn't fare much better. He allowed an RBI single, adding a fourth run to the Royals' tally. The Yankees' early lead vanished quickly, leaving them with a lot to think about for the rest of the series.
