Taiwan's film scene has seen some progress, but there's a big issue: people aren't into long movies anymore. Each Other Films, a company run by Jacqueline W. Liu and Tiffany Yu-Chia Chen, is trying to figure this out.
The co-founders think the real problem is that people don't want to watch long stories. This is a big deal because it changes how films should be made. They also think that while film festivals help, they don't solve the bigger problem of making films consistently.
To deal with this, Each Other Films is working on films with other countries. They want to keep the emotional side of Asian stories. One of their projects is a documentary about a drag performer called "Heals. " The film is about the tough relationship between parents and children in Asia.
Another project is "Spent Bullets, " which follows two engineers on a road trip. The film is shot in different places to show the characters' inner struggles. They're also working on "The Odd Three: Madam Tiger, " which is part of a bigger Asian story world.
The company has made films that did well in theaters and at festivals. They believe that good stories can do well in both places. They also think that it's not just about who is in front of the camera, but who gets to decide what stories are told.
The co-founders want to see more women leading in the film industry. They think this will help change the culture. They want to make sure that women are not just participating, but also making decisions and financing projects.
